In 1968 the State of Wisconsin legislature passed an act creating the protection of Wisconsin’s lake and river shorelines. The Village of Allouez adopted the Shoreland-Wetland Zoning Ordinance – Chapter 468 to reflect the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources model ordinance. The purpose of the ordinance is to prevent and control water pollution, protect spawning grounds of fish and aquatic life, control building sites, placement of structures and land uses, preserve shore cover and natural beauty.
Contact the Village of Allouez if you are planning on doing work within 300 feet of the Fox River and East River or on the landward side of the 100-year floodplain. Activities requiring a permit include, but are not limited to, construction of buildings, decks, and patios, removal of shoreline vegetation, filling and grading of property, and various other activities that can affect the quality of shorelines and water.

A Certificate of Appropriateness is needed when there are plans for reconstructing, altering, or demolishing the exterior of a property locally designated by the Village as historic.
