Prescribed Burns Planned for Stormwater Pond Prairies

To reinvigorate and remove invasive species from stormwater pond prairies, the Village of Allouez has hired Fox Valley Technical College to complete a prescribed burn of the following Allouez pond prairies:

  • Longview Pond
  • Kiwanis Pond
  • Hoffman Pond
  • Macco Pond
  • Boyd Pond
  • Heritage Hill Pond

If conditions allow, the prescribed burn is scheduled to take place in April and early May. If conditions are not suitable (windy and dry) the burn will not be completed.

A prescribed fire will not take place at the Bethel Baptist Pond due to the age of the prairie (planted in 2021).

Every effort will be taken to reduce smoke impact on neighboring landowners.

Prescribed fire is a necessary tool to keep open prairies free from invading vegetation and to reinvigorate stands of grass and wildflowers to their fullest potential. Prescribed fire reduces and eliminates thatch build up that inhibits new growth, reduces invasive species, increases species diversity, recycles nutrients, and improves soil erosion control and water quality.

March 2025 notification to property owner’s directly adjacent to above ponds.
